The Nantucket Fire Department rushed to the east end of the island Wednesday morning after reports of a car fire on Quidnet Road.

They arrived at the scene just after 7 a.m. to find a work van fully engulfed in flames. Crews were able to extinguish the blaze in front of a guesthouse on the property at 21 Quidnet Road. There were no injuries, fire chief Michael Cranson said.

The resident of the guesthouse told Cranson that he started the work van, went back into the house to grab some coffee, and when he returned it was on fire.

A coworker of the vehicle's owner reached out to the Current to say the man's name is Jorge, and that he had all his belongings in the work van. He described Jorge as "a very good person. Hard worker, loves America. The hope is that insurance will cover the cost of his tools and other items destroyed in the fire.
