Adrian Bacchas, 36, was sentenced to 10 years in state prison by Superior Court Judge Karen Goodwin Wednesday morning after Bacchas was found guilty by a 12-person jury Tuesday afternoon on two charges of aggravated rape of a child (five-year age difference), one charge of rape of a child, one charge of rape of a child with force, and one charge of possessing child pornography.
Bacchas was credited with one day served in prison and will begin his sentence immediately at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center, a maximum-security facility in Shirley, Massachusetts.
Goodwin said she hopes prison “can serve as a rehabilitation service” for Bacchas and provide him with the opportunity to reflect on his actions so he comes out a “changed man.” She added that she hopes this verdict will help the victim move forward.
Conditions of the sentencing include Bacchas having to register as a sex offender, provide the state with a DNA sample, have no contact with the victim, and pay a $90 victim-witness fee. The prison time will be served on the two aggravated rape charges as well as the rape of a child with force. He was given five years of probation on the rape of a child charge, which will be served concurrently with the prison sentence and two years of probation on the possessing child pornography charge, which will be served once he is released from prison in 2034.
The mandatory minimum on the aggravated rape charges was 10 years. Cape & Islands assistant district attorney Michael Giardino asked for Bacchas to be sentenced to 12-15 years in state prison.
