This week’s Current Court Report includes arraignments and dispositions from the Monday and Tuesday Nantucket District Court sessions. It is led with the arraignment of an island resident who allegedly passed a vehicle on Milestone Road and proceeded to hit the 63 year old victim in the face with his cell phone after they both got out of their vehicles and engaged in a verbal and physical altercation.

Georgijus Amitonas, 40, of Nantucket was arraigned on a July 23rd charge of assault & battery on a person over the age of 60. He had not-guilty pleas entered on his behalf and was ordered to return to court November 16th for a pretrial hearing.

According to the police report, Amitonas was involved in a physical altercation at the intersection of Nobadeer Farm Road and Hinsdale Road. The alleged victim, who is 63 years old, told police he was driving to Bunker Road when a vehicle passed him on a double yellow line and followed him to the area of New South Road.

Once both drivers exited their vehicles, Amitonas allegedly pushed the victim with both hands in the chest and struck him in the left cheek with his cell phone.

When Amitonas spoke to police at the station, he told officers he passed the alleged victim's vehicledue to "not feeling safe behind his vehicle on Milestone Road." Amitonas then told police he pulled off on New South Road because "he thought something was wrong" with the alleged victim. Amitonas told police he swung his arms while his phone was in his hand, and his intention was not to hit the alleged victim with the phone.
