Nantucket Current Summer Internship 2025

OVERVIEW

As Nantucket’s most-read online news source, Nantucket Current produces quality content for our readers on a daily basis, including photography, reporting, and compelling articles on the island’s important issues and people. We rely heavily on the talents and skills of our team members, and our interns as well.

Interning with Nantucket Current provides an opportunity to learn many facets of the digital publishing industry, including writing, photography, news coverage, advertising, social media, and more. We are looking for students with an interest in news, photography, and storytelling, who have a passion for all things Nantucket along with a professional and dedicated work ethic.

DETAILS

BASICS:

• Unpaid Internship (or for college credit)

Nantucket Current does not provide housing and intern applicants must secure housing before we can offer an internship

TIME COMMITMENT:

• Early- to mid-June through August 2025

• Typically, we expect our interns to work with us Monday – Friday, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, with various additional hours weekly, however, we are flexible with how this time will potentially be allocated. As this is an unpaid internship, we understand that second jobs are likely to be a necessity. We can be flexible to accommodate second jobs, but maintain that the Current must be a top priority throughout the summer.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

• Writing digital content for the website, e-newsletter, and social media, with a focus on events

• Working with island venues/restaurants to compile daily listings such as live music and food trucks

• Graphic design for social media

• Assisting with breaking news coverage, including photos and videos

• Researching background information for articles and interviews

EXPECTATIONS:

• Arriving each day (either virtually or in person) on-time, prepared, and ready to work

• General knowledge of the Nantucket community and its businesses

• A fluency in social media

• The ability to pitch-in as needed. Because we are a small team, we wear many hats, and often ask our interns to assist in a variety of tasks outside the normal duties of the internship.
