51st Nantucket Christmas Stroll Brings Thousands To Island

Santa arrived on Straight Wharf with an assist from Coast Guard Station Brant Point on Saturday as the 51st annual Nantucket Christmas Stroll reached its peak.
Thousands came to the island for the festive weekend, filling hotels, inns, and rental homes, and packing the downtown area for the last major event of the year. Many of those in attendance were decked out in costumes - from classy to comical - as they enjoyed Nantucket's restaurants and retailers, giving the island's businesses one final jolt to end the year.
The Nantucket Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the annual event, had promoted the weekend with the slogan "Shine On, Nantucket!" Island residents and visitors were treated to roaming carolers in Victorian garb, craft shows, a European-style Christmas Marketplace, and performances at numerous venues around the island.
