American Airlines announced Thursday that it would be adding daily flights to Nantucket from LaGuardia Airport in New York City during the summer of 2024.

The additional service to the island is part of American Airlines' larger expansion into New England from LaGuardia, including flights to Hyannis, Martha's Vineyard, and Maine. The Nantucket flights will begin June 22, 2024, and will be available to purchase starting next Monday, Oct. 16.

American Airlines had previously flown from LaGuardia to Nantucket but stopped in 2023 due to the partnership with JetBlue through the so-called "Northeast Alliance" in which the two airlines would codeshare flights. Following a federal judge's ruling in May that the partnership hindered competition, the alliance is coming to an end and each airline will now have flights from LaGuardia to Nantucket.

JetBlue, in fact, already has its LaGuardia to Nantucket flights for next summer posted on its website for sale.

"My only comment is that both JetBlue and American provide a valuable service from Nantucket to LaGuardia, and competition is healthy for the consumer," Nantucket Memorial Airport manager Noah Karberg said.

“American continues to build a network that gives customers the most comprehensive access to the places they want to visit with nine new routes for next summer,” said Brian Znotins, American Airlines's senior vice president of network and schedule planning. “New service to Hyannis, expanded service from New York, and more international service grows the largest global network in the United States, connecting more cities than any other U.S. carrier, for a summer like no other.”
