The Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) has announced the winners of its annual Lloyd Schultz Awards for Excellence in High-School-Level Fine Art.

Cathy Aguiar, an AAN Artist Member, and Beth Morris, an AAN Artist Member and Nantucket High School art teacher for over 30 years, served as the judges for this year's  Lloyd Schultz Awards.

“I was impressed by the variety and talent of work that was exhibited," Aguiar said. "There was a lot of wonderful work to choose from but the depth and presentation of the finalists really caught my eye. It was very exciting to see all of the artwork our young community of artists submitted.”

And the awards went to:

2nd Place: Clan-Alee Moore – Photograph, grade 11

3rd Place: Chloe Remick – Scratchboard, grade 12

C Moore 2nd
Second place winner Clan-Alee Moore

Third place winner Chloe Remick

Honorable Mentions:

Sofia Majano – Colored Pencils and Markers, grade 11

The Lloyd Schultz Awards are presented in partnership with the Nantucket Arts Council.

“Seeing the results of incredibly talented and creative young minds at work is a joy," Morris added. "Knowing that creativity will be going out into our world is also a joy… Art is often personal and I know this award and the recognition that goes with it is important, so I tried to look at what pieces seemed to show extra effort, skill, and creativity combined to get to the final result. However, each piece here deserves praise.”

“I would like to add my praise to the art teachers and the Artists Association for continuing to support creatively minded students and giving those students a venue to share their visions with the community," Morris continued. "Well done and congratulations to all!”
