The Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) has a long history of supporting island artists and has been exhibiting Nantucket student art through the annual “Art from the Schools” Exhibition for more than 75 years.

Late last week, AAN announced the winners of the annual Lloyd Schultz Awards for Excellence in High-School-Level Fine Art.

Liz Buccino, AAN Director of Education and Artist Member, and Lizbet Carroll Fuller, AAN Programming Manager and Artist Member, served as the judges for the Lloyd Schultz Awards.

“I was really impressed by the variety and talent on display," Fuller said. "There were so many great pieces to choose from, but the depth and presentation of the finalists especially stood out to me. It was exciting to see all the amazing artwork our young artists submitted.”

The awards went to:

1st Place: Shayquan Francis – Charcoal Drawing, grade 12

2nd Place: Emil Ivanov – Photograph, grade 11

3rd Place: Emy Browers – Ceramics, grade 12

Honorable Mentions:

Jimmy Garcia – Photograph, grade 9

Claudia Peña Valle – Printmaking, grade 11

The Lloyd Schultz Awards are presented in partnership with the Nantucket Arts Council.

“I’d also like to recognize the art teachers for their continued dedication to supporting creative students," Fuller added. "Great job and congratulations to everyone involved!”
