Bruce A. Percelay has been elected as the new chairman of the Nantucket Cottage Hospital Board of Trustees. A longtime supporter and former campaign chair, Percelay succeeds Craig Muhlhauser, whose five-year term as chair has concluded.

Percelay and his wife Elisabeth have two children who were born at Nantucket Cottage Hospital and led its $120 million, three-year capital campaign to build the new hospital on Prospect Street, which was the largest private fundraising effort for a community hospital in the U.S.

As chairman, Percelay will help spearhead a new $50 million campaign to raise funds for employee housing. The project is expected to break ground in 2026.

"There is a direct correlation between the quality of care the hospital can provide and the availability of housing for medical personnel," Percelay said. "It is essential that the hospital builds sufficient quality housing opportunities to attract and retain the kind of talent we need to deliver the best possible medical care on Nantucket."

“We have benefited tremendously from Bruce’s leadership in the past and are excited that he will now help steer us through both a new campaign and other issues facing the hospital,” said Amy Lee, president of Nantucket Cottage Hospital..

Muhlhauser will continue to serve on the board, guiding a smooth and orderly transition.

“Craig’s steady leadership and deep commitment to our mission have left an indelible mark on Nantucket Cottage Hospital,” said Amy Lee, President of Nantucket Cottage Hospital. “We’re fortunate to continue benefiting from his insight as he remains on the board.”

The hospital, which was founded in 1911, is part of the Mass General Brigham network of community hospitals and is considered the cornerstone of the island community.
