Jazmine Kasperzyk was hired earlier this month by the Nantucket Community School to become their new sports and wellness coordinator. She will have several different hats in this seat, but one of her main responsibilities will be to manage the Nantucket Public School’s new tennis courts located off of Backus Lane this summer.
“I am very excited to step into this new position at Nantucket Community School,” Kasperzyk said. “I am looking forward to making a positive impact in our youth community. Athletics has always been a huge part of my life and created such an impact on me.”
Kasperzyk was born and raised in Connecticut. She was a part of many sports teams including lacrosse, volleyball, dance, and cheerleading. Since relocating to Nantucket in 2021, she has grown a successful youth gymnastics program at NCS and has worked as an assistant coach for the varsity cheerleading team.
The availability of these new tennis courts will provide opportunities for clinics, lessons, and camps for the first time since 2021, the last year NCS managed the courts at Jetties Beach.
Along with the courts, Kasperzyk’s responsibilities also include managing the court staff and programming and all facets of the ACKventure Sports Camp during the summer. She will also be responsible for organizing year-round wellness programs across all community school departments.
“I truly believe that athletics can make a huge difference with our youth community,” she said. “There is so much importance to sports besides the physical health benefits. Sports also help build self-esteem, help athletes do better academically, build resilience, and more.”
Youth tennis clinics will be available this summer for children ages four to 14, Monday through Friday. Clinics will begin the week of July 3 and run through August 18 with instructor Tyler Konopka, who is the high school’s athletic trainer.
Registration for clinics and all other sports camps opens on Monday, April 3 at 9 a.m. Additional camps include gymnastics and junior gymnastics, basketball, girls' lacrosse, football, swim clinics, and more.
“As the new Sports and Wellness Coordinator at Nantucket Community School, I am excited to build more programming for our community,” Kasperzyk said. “We need more opportunities on Nantucket for our children. My goal is to have multiple options for youth athletics at any stage of life.”
