Driver Charged After Rollover Accident On Orange Street

A man was hospitalized Wednesday night following a rollover accident on Orange Street.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the Kia Optima, had to be extracted from the vehicle by Nantucket Fire Department EMTs who responded to the scene along with the Nantucket Police Department and heavy rescue personnel. The man was conscious when he was removed from the vehicle, but was taken on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance.
The video above was captured from Main Street (from the Congdon & Coleman street cam) and shows how a car flipped over after drifting off the road and colliding with a tree. There was a huge gash on the tree along the roadway near the accident scene.
The driver, Mario J. Rivera, 39, of 21 Pine Grove Lane, has been charged with operating under the influence of drugs (police have not yet specified the substance), along with negligent operation of a motor vehicle and unlicensed operation.
