The Egan Maritime Institute will be delving into Nantucket's fishing legacy with the latest edition of its Foghorn Speaker Series.

The upcoming installment in the speaker series, Fishing For Food and Money, is scheduled for Wednesday, June 25, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum.

The panel will include Carl Sjound, veteran fisherman, Ginger Andrews, owner and restorer of the island’s last working scalloping shanty, Jeff Allen, owner and artist of retail shop FishStix, Tammy King, owner and surf casting instructor behind Fish Girl Guides and an advocate for women in the fishing industry, Corey Gammill, owner of Bill Fisher Tackle and Bill Fisher Outings. The event will be moderated by Tobias Glidden, owner of ACKSmart, and descendant of Charles S. Glidden, a U.S. Life-Saving Surfman and founder of Nantucket's first fish market.

The panel will discuss the Museum's featured exhibit, From Hard Times to Boom Times, which traces the transformation of Nantucket’s Waterfront from a robust whaling and fishing economy, to its present role as a vibrant, tourism-based hub.

“This discussion offers a unique window into the lived experiences behind an evolving industry,” said Carlisle Jensen, executive director of Egan Maritime. ‘It honors the role of local stories in preserving the island’s waterfront history and maritime legacy.”

The panel is free for members. Non-members pay regular museum admission, ranging from $7 to $15. Visit http://eganmaritime.org to learn more and register.
