Fire Breaks Out At Home Under Construction

The Nantucket Fire Department responded to a structure fire Tuesday afternoon at a Polpis Road residence that was being partially demolished as part of a renovation project.
The home was unoccupied when the fire broke out, and there were no injuries reported. The cause remains undetermined, according to Nantucket Fire Department Chief Michael Cranson.
Polpis Road was shut down to traffic while NFD worked to contain the blaze and ensure it did not spread to adjacent properties. Firefighters were forced to shuttle water to the home at 82 Polpis Road from the nearest hydrant by Moors End Farm.
The property, assessed at $3.2 million, is owned by John and Anne Kennedy, of Bronxville, NY, according to town property records.
"The call came in from an off-duty captain (Nate Barber) who stated that his company was demolishing a building on the property when the fire started," fire chief Michael Cranson told the Current. "We responded with two engines, a tanker and two chiefs. There were no injuries, the firefighters performed great and the fire was extinguished without any damage to surrounding properties. NPD was great in helping us maintain safety on and around the scene and managing the traffic in the area. The on-scene excavator helped us to move some debris and make sure that the fire was completely extinguished. No injuries and cause is undetermined."
