Former President Joe Biden Expected Back On Nantucket For Thanksgiving

Former President Joe Biden is expected back on Nantucket later this month as his family plans to renew its annual Thanksgiving tradition for the first time since he left the White House after bowing out of his reelection bid during the 2024 presidential race.
"I haven’t received anything official from the Secret Service, but we do expect he will be spending Thanksgiving on the island with a security detail," Nantucket Police Department Lt. Angus MacVicar told the Current.
Another source at Nantucket Memorial Airport said the U.S. Secret Service has already rented 12 cars for the week of Thanksgiving. It is not yet clear where the Bidens will be staying for this visit, but in recent years, they have used the waterfront compound of billionaire investor and philanthropist David Rubenstein, co-founder of the Carlyle Group, along Nantucket Harbor.
While Biden's security entourage is expected to be far smaller than the massive details that descended on Nantucket during his visits as President from 2021 to 2024, it will still likely be noticeable during the holiday week.
Biden has been coming to Nantucket for more than four decades as a U.S. Senator, as Vice President during the Obama administration, and for the past four years as President himself.
Last year's trip was remarkably similar to the Bidens' previous visits during his presidency, as the family stuck to a familiar routine. For the third year in a row, Biden and former First Lady Jill Biden visited the Nantucket Fire Department on Thanksgiving to meet with first responders working on the holiday. They dined at the Brotherhood of Thieves on Broad Street before shopping and attending the annual tree lighting ceremony on Main Street.
