The Nantucket Fire Department responded to a fire early Thursday morning on Dennis Drive where two greenhouse structures went up in flames in a mid-island neighborhood.

The structures were fully involved when fire crews first arrived, prompting the department to call for all available personnel to respond. The occupant of the home told the Current no one was injured, and the small greenhouses were vacant except for some fertilizer and gardening items.

Deputy Chief Sean Mitchell said the fire was large enough that some nearby trees started to ignite, so firefighters doused them as well. The fire was first reported by the occupants of the home who called 911 around 4:30 a.m.

Fire chief Steve Murphy pegged the estimated damages at $6,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but is not believed to be suspicious, Murphy added.
