Grill 23 To Open Pop-Up Restaurant At The White Elephant In July

This summer the White Elephant will have a new look after undergoing extensive renovations all offseason. But in July, it will be offering a unique and intriguing dining option for its guests and the public when Grill 23, the popular Boston steakhouse, opens a pop-up restaurant in the White Elephant’s ballroom.

“Obviously we know the brand and we know the people there who have been fantastic partners over the years,” President of White Elephant Resorts Khaled Hashem told the Current. “An opportunity came where they are doing their 40^th anniversary renovation and we are also renovating the White Elephant Hotel and Cottages, so that is fantastic timing and more importantly it is a great partner for us.”

Hashem said that Grill 23 will be bringing over their furniture and resources from the Boston restaurant to set up a 75 to 80 seat restaurant. While no exact date has been determined, Hashem said the expectation is that it will be open for business within the first week of July and operate for three and a half to four weeks.

“Their designer was there the other day with them so it will really be set up as a restaurant with dining room tables, some chairs, some seating areas, and a bar area so it looks and feels like a restaurant. Their menu will be very similar to what they have in Boston, and this will be open to everybody in the public.”

Hours of operation have not been determined, Hashem said, but he was adamant that Grill 23 wants to “maximize their time on Nantucket.”

“This is very exciting and how could it not be,” Hashem said. “It is Grill 23, an amazing steakhouse, coming here to the island at its peak time. To be able to offer that to our guests and people on the island, it is just very exciting.”

As for the White Elephant’s renovations, they have been going on as planned. Hashem said each week he stops by to see the progress, the more he gets the itch for summertime to arrive.

“The renovations are coming along amazing,” he said. “Every time I go every week I see the progress and I get so excited. We are going to have a photoshoot there of some rooms in the first week of April and then we will be opening the first week of May with everything brand new whether it be the building, all of the suites, all of the rooms, the lobby, retail area, the artwork. It is going to be fabulous."
