The 26th annual Boston Pops on Nantucket concert - Nantucket Cottage Hospital's largest annual fundraiser - will feature Broadway star Michael Cavanaugh playing the music of Elton John, the hospital announced last Friday.
The concert, which is always the largest event of the summer on Nantucket that typically draws upwards of 6,000 people, is scheduled for Aug. 12 at Jetties Beach.
Cavanaugh is a Tony Award and Grammy Award nominated artist who became famous when he was hand-picked by Billy Joel to star in the Broadway musical Movin’ Out. He has since been called “The New Voice of the American Rock and Roll Songbook” by Billboard and the “Entertainer of the Year” by Reuters.
The hospital also announced last week that long-time summer residents and hospital supporters Doug and Anne Marie Bratton will co-chair this year’s event.
The Boston Pops on Nantucket returned to Jetties Beach last year after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, and featured a drone show rather than the typical fireworks display, which dazzled the crowd.
"We are honored to be co-hosting Nantucket’s most beloved summer event which provides such critical support to the island’s only hospital," the Brattons said.
The Boston Pops on Nantucket is once again being sponsored by Jill and Stephen Karp and White Elephant Resorts
