Housing Agencies Announce New Affordable Housing Opportunities

Two of Nantucket's affordable housing agencies have announced new opportunities for affordable rentals and homeownership opportunities on the island.

Housing Nantucket - 31 Fairgrounds Road (Wiggles Way) apartments

Housing Nantucket has announced new year-round affordable rental housing opportunities available for households of low- and moderate-income. Wiggles Way is the new development of 22 apartments under construction at 31 Fairgrounds
Road. Amenities in the new apartments include hardwood floors, private storage in the basement, shared washers/dryers in each building, and on-site parking. The target completion date is now August 1, 2024. Six affordable apartments will be awarded by lottery and are available at below-market rates to low-income households. A total of 16 workforce apartments are available to moderate-income households and will be selected from Housing Nantucket's "Ready-to-Rent list." The qualification calculator on the application will inform applicants of their eligibility for either Affordable or Workforce Units.

Eligible applicants for Housing Nantucket's affordable units must have less than $75,000 in assets and cannot own residential real estate property of any kind. Completed applications must be returned to Housing Nantucket before 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Apply online by clicking here.

Habitat For Humanity - Waitt Drive homes

The local chapter of Habitat for Humanity has announced that applications are available now for four homes - two 3-bedroom single-family homes and two 2-bedroom single-family homes - that will be built on Waitt Drive. Applicants must be income eligible with a maximum of 80 percent of Nantucket's area median income by household size (for example, $109,650 for a family of four). Applicants must also be willing to commit 350 hours of "sweat equity" to help build the home and have a housing need.

Applicants are urged to attend one of the in-person or virtual information workshops for prospective buyers:

• In-person information workshops will be held at the Nantucket Atheneum on May 20th at 6:30 p.m. and June 10th at 6:30 p.m.
