Land Bank Acquires Property On Madequecham Valley Road For $2.7 Million

The Nantucket Land Bank acquired two-thirds of an acre along the island's south shore on Thursday, adding to its portfolio of waterfront properties.
The Land Bank paid $2.7 million to purchase 48 Madequecham Valley Road, a .67-acre property that "is covered in low-lying heathland vegetation, sits in a quiet, out-of-the-way setting, and includes a single-family home that will be used for year-round workforce housing," the agency stated in an announcement.
The property was sold to the Land Bank by Forsyth 48, LLC, a limited liability company registered to Holly H. Nelson. It is adjacent to two properties owned by the town of Nantucket.
"In conjunction with the surrounding Town of Nantucket holdings, this acquisition will improve public beach access for fishing, swimming and relaxing," the Land Bank stated.
The sale marked the Land Bank's first property acquisition in more than a year. Its last property purchase occurred in October 2025 with the acquisition of the Boynton Lane lot that became the community food hub collaboration with the Nantucket Food Pantry and Nourish Nantucket.
