A Land Rover was discovered crashed and abandoned off Polpis Road early Thursday morning.

The person who found it and called the Nantucket Police Department told the Current no one was in the car or around the wreck, which happened near the entrance to the Sankaty Head Golf Club.

The Rover was towed away on a Dona Allen flatbed.

Nantucket Current has requested the incident report from the Nantucket Police Department, and is awaiting its delivery. However, Nantucket Police Department Lt. Angus MacVicar said he did not expect any significant charges to arise from the incident, as there was no property damage and the driver could not be immediately located.

The crash marked the fourth motor vehicle accident involving a Land Rover since May 18, when a woman hit two boys on the Surfside Road bike path with her Land Rover.

A Land Rover was also found submerged at the Jackson Point pier in Madaket in June, and another rolled over on its side on Milestone Road earlier this month.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
