Lightning Strike Sparks House Fire On Upper Tawpawshaw Road

Authorities said everyone made it out of the house safely

The Nantucket Fire Department, Nantucket Police, and State Police responded to Upper Tawpawshaw Road Saturday night when a reported lightning strike started a fire on the roof of a home. An officer at the scene said everyone made it out safely.

The fire had been knocked down and extinguished just before midnight. The Fire Department responded with numerous personnel and apparatus to the scene. Saturday night's thunderstorm brought numerous lightning strikes around the island.
