Meet The 2026 Nantucket Lifeguards
Jason Graziadei •
The island’s lifeguards hit the beaches Thursday for the first time this season.
Over the past few weeks, the team of nearly 60 lifeguards who hail from Nantucket and places around the world have been training in preparation for the summer. Earlier this week, Nantucket Current stopped by Surfside Beach to capture this video to help introduce this year's crew to the island:
Nantucket’s lifeguards operate under the Nantucket Harbormaster’s office, performing beach rescues, advising the public, and patrolling the shoreline on ATVs.
Every morning until Labor Day, they also provide an update on the conditions at all of the guarded beaches around the island. You can find that update daily on the Current’s Instagram stories.
Beyond the surf conditions, the lifeguards will also share updates regarding marine life, such as jellyfish and sharks, that are spotted from shore.
Nantucket’s guarded beaches include:
- Children’s
- Cisco
- Dionis
- Jetties
- Ladies
- Madaket
- Miacomet
- Nobadeer
- Sconset
- Surfside
