The Nantucket Arts Council, a local non-profit focused on supporting the island’s arts community, is transitioning into a new structure as a fund under the umbrella of the Community Foundation for Nantucket.

The non-profit, which has been around for over 50 years, said in a letter to its supporters that its mission will remain the same and that they will “continue to provide support to community institutions, artists, and students pursuing education in the arts.”

Starting July 1st, the Nantucket Arts Council will become the Nantucket Arts Council Community Fund and also part of the Nantucket Community Foundation Scholarship Fund.

“We believe that now is the right moment for a structural change that will strengthen and sustain this work for decades to come. By becoming a project of the Community Foundation for Nantucket, we are ensuring that our commitment to the arts continues with enduring organizational and financial support,” president Barbara Elder wrote. “We deeply cherish the generosity that so many individuals, family foundations, and granting organizations have shown us over these five decades. We also honor the commitment and perseverance of the many volunteers who have given their time, talent, and passion to keep our organization vibrant and beloved. Together, we will continue the tradition of uplifting the arts on Nantucket.”

The Nantucket Arts Council is notable for its grants, awards, and helping to develop the Nantucket Cultural District. The Nantucket Arts Council also provides scholarships to Nantucket High School seniors.
