The Nantucket Atheneum has announced the launch of its Pass(port) Program, a new initiative offering free museum and experiential passes to library patrons.

The program, which started on May 17th, allows library cardholders — whether year-round residents or visitors — to borrow passes for complimentary admission to select island museums and places. Each pass admits four to six people free of charge and is available for a one-time checkout at the library. Quantities are limited, so patrons are encouraged to visit the Atheneum early, enjoy their experience, and return the passes promptly and in good condition for others to use.

The program aims to ignite curiosity, inspire learning, and ensure greater access to Nantucket’s rich cultural offerings, the Atheneum stated in its announcement.

“Our goal is to make art, history, and education more accessible to everyone, regardless of financial circumstance,” said Lisa Lothian, Head of Outreach Services. “We are deeply grateful to our partners who share our vision for equity and community enrichment.”

The collaboration was made possible through the generosity and cooperation of local museums and organizations. The Maria Mitchell Association, Egan Maritime Institute, and the Coskata-Coatue Wildlife Refuge are the founding members of the initiative.

Each are committed to enhancing public access to their exhibits and experiences. The Atheneum believes that supporting shared knowledge strengthens the entire island community. Daily passes are available at the library’s main desk and may be checked out by any library cardholder — no matter where you’re from.

Library cards are free for anyone who is interested. To learn more about participating organizations and how to reserve your pass, visit https://nantucketatheneum.org/museum-passport-program/ or stop by the Atheneum during open hours.
