Nantucket Community School Offering Journeyman Electrician Scholarships To Island Residents

For the second year, Nantucket Community School has partnered with Upper Cape Cod Tech to offer 10 local residents the opportunity to train for their journeyman electrician license completely free of charge.

Thanks to funding from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center's Climate Critical Workforce Training Grant, those participating will receive free tuition that includes work boots, tools, textbooks, and more.

"This program is a win for workforce development and a win for our local economy," said Brian Lenane, Nantucket Community School Adult Education Coordinator. "It shows what's possible when funding meets collaboration."

Last year's scholarship recipients are now employed as electrical contractors on the island.

In order to apply, students must be 18 years or older at the start of class (August 16) and have a valid Massachusetts driver's license, the ability to work in the US, and a high school diploma.

Classes meet Saturdays at the Nantucket Community School, 56 Centre Street, starting August 16. To learn more about this workforce development program, contact Mary Burke at mburke@uppercapetech.org or 508-759-7711, ext. 258.
