The Nantucket Cottage Hospital announced Tuesday morning that it has earned the Joint Commission’s CMS Health Equity Certification, which they say is a recognition that honors the hospital team’s ongoing work to identify and close health disparities, build strong community partnerships, and ensure equitable, patient-centered care for every member of our island community.

“This achievement is a testament to the compassion, dedication, and collaboration of our staff who bring this mission to life each day,” NCH President Amy Lee said. “By embedding equity into our practices and deepening our connections across the island, we are building a healthier, more inclusive future for Nantucket. Thank you to our entire team for driving this important work forward.”

Massachusetts is the first state in the nation to adopt this certification, and with the support of Mass General Brigham, NCH is helping lead the way.

The Joint Commission's Health Care Equity Certification aims to decrease health care disparities, promote healthcare equity, and address leadership, collaboration, data collection, provision of care, and performance improvement. The voluntary certification program was launched on July 1, 2023, and recognizes hospitals for excellence in providing equitable care for all patient groups.
