The Nantucket Film Festival on Tuesday released a lineup of over 60 films that will be shown during the 29th annual festival, which runs from June 19 through June 24.
The festival's opening night film will be Thelma, which was written and directed by Josh Margolin. The film follows 93-year-old Thelma Post as she sets out on a quest for justice after being scammed out of $10,000. The film stars Academy Award nominee June Squibb, Richard Roundtree, Clark Gregg, Fred Hechinger, and Parker Posey.
The closing night film will be Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story. This film is directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui and tells of Reeve’s astonishing rise from unknown actor to iconic movie star, including his definitive portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman, before being injured in a near-fatal horse-riding accident in 1995 that left him paralyzed from the neck down, but catalyzed his activism for disability rights.
The centerpiece selection is Netflix’s Skywalkers: A Love Story directed by Jeff Zimbalist. This film chronicles the visually stunning documentary which tells the nail-biting story of a daredevil couple journeying across the globe to clandestinely film themselves climbing the world’s last super skyscraper.
Also for a 13th consecutive year, the NFF will host a screening of a Disney and Pixar film on the festival’s opening day. This year it will be Inside Out 2, which is directed by Kelsey Mann.
There will also be some films under the category "Views From Nantucket" featuring short films that offer intimate glimpses into the unique landscapes, stories, and characters found on island. Those films are:
In The Cards (Directed by Teen View Students Lizzy Aguilar, Lucy Bell, Hadley Cooke, Rex Dixon, Shayquan Francis, Jeremiah Nustar, Saraiah Nustar, Anna Popnikalova and Marley Viselli of Nantucket High School).
Lost In Nevers Land (Director: Penny Dey).
The Dildo From Nantucket (Writer/Director: Michael McGuirk).
