A Tradition Renewed: The Nantucket Garden Club's House & Garden Tours
Leslie Phillips •
The Nantucket Garden club is hosting its 66th annual house and garden walking tour, “Welcome to Upper Main Street,” on Wednesday, August 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year’s fundraiser will include five Main Street homes and gardens, four additional gardens, along with the historic Hadwen House, all of which have been decorated with floral arrangements created by Garden Club members.
This self-guided tour offers a unique opportunity to be immersed in the history of Nantucket and brings the traditions of seafaring and candle-making to life while you are free to wander each venue at your own pace. The event will include complimentary tea in the Hadwen House and a chance to browse through a unique pop-up boutique “featuring an array of interesting items” to purchase.
The House and Garden Tour is a much-anticipated event after running for over 60 years, but what maintains the fundraiser’s popularity is the rotation of neighborhoods featured in the tour each year. The event highlights a variety of historic and new homes and has bounced all over the island from Sconset to Brant Point in previous years.
The House and Garden Tour also serves as a fundraiser for the Nantucket Garden Club, where proceeds are used to support the local community with donations to non-profits and conservation projects, and funds scholarships for graduating seniors at Nantucket High School.
