Nantucket High School Musical "Guys & Dolls" Opens Weekend Run

Nantucket High School will be presenting the classic musical "Guys & Dolls" this week, with shows March 16th to 18th at 6 p.m. and March 19 at 2 p.m. at the Mary P. Walker Auditorium.
The musical is being directed by NHS teacher Erin MacIver, who said that she chose "Guys & Dolls" because it holds a special place in her heart.
"It was the first show I was ever in as an actor," she said. "It was the first show I directed at the high school level at my first teaching job. It was the first show I directed here on Nantucket in 2012."
"Guys & Dolls" takes place in 1940's New York City. It's the story of a couple of big city gamblers, and the women they fall in love with. The ensemble is made up of gamblers, mission members, and show girls. The student actors made most of the props for the stage, MacIver said, while other pieces were donated or gifted.
"While there are characters that are leads, it truly is an ensemble piece," MacIver said. "There are many characters that add color, comedy, and energy to the show."
Tickets can be purchased at the NHS office by calling 508-228-7280 or at the door.
Nantucket Current contributing photographer Charity Grace Mofsen stopped by a rehearsal earlier this week and took some these photos of the actors preparing for opening night:
