Nantucket Preservation Trust Executive Director Mary Bergman Stepping Down
Nantucket Current •
Mary Bergman, executive director of the Nantucket Preservation Trust, is stepping down and will resign her post by May 8th of this year.
"I feel lucky to have worked for the NPT for the past eight years, six as the executive director," Bergman said Friday in her announcement to the membership of the non-profit preservation agency.
“I think the Nantucket Preservation Trust is in a position of great strength, both financially and with strong initiatives in process," said Alison Potts, NPT board chair. "We will miss Mary immensely, but support her personal aspirations to pursue writing and research. We have a great staff and a great board.”
During Bergman's tenure, NPT has received national recognition for its preservation easement program, changed local policies on house recycling, and led the charge on scholarships for local students to The North Bennett Street School, the Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston Architectural College, and New York University's historic preservation program. NPT has also partnered with other local nonprofits to secure funding to restore historic structures and drive change in deconstruction and architectural material reuse.
The NPT Executive Board has started a search for Bergman's replacement.
