The Friends of Nantucket Public Schools is hosting a Bike-A-Thon on Sunday to raise money for Nantucket Public School students and teachers.
“Over the last 12 months, we’ve been working hard to bring Friends of [Nantucket Public Schools] back to life, and this event is one of the many exciting traditions we’re bringing back this year,” Friends of Nantucket Public Schools vice president Jessica Norris said. “The Bike-A-Thon is more than just a fun event—it’s a chance for families to come together, enjoy a great day, and connect with us to learn more about who we are and what we do to support our schools, teachers, and students.”
The Bike-A-Thon will feature awards for the best-decorated bikes, costumes, bike safety, and other categories. Fundraisers who bring in the most money will also receive awards. Local DJ Scott Capizzo will provide the music, and in addition to students from Nantucket Elementary and Intermediate School, children attending island private schools have also been invited.
Norris also stated that the event is part of a rebranding effort for Friends of Nantucket Public Schools, which has previously been known as FONPS, but now prefers to be referred to as “Friends.”
“One of the biggest changes you’ll notice this year is our new look,” Norris said. “This Bike-A-Thon is a huge opportunity to share our rebrand.”
The Bike-A-Thon begins at the Nantucket Elementary and Intermediate School parking lot at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, with check-in starting half an hour earlier.
E-bikes are not permitted as part of the Bike-A-Thon.
