Nantucket's Fourth Of July Festivities Lineup

After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Nantucket's traditional Fourth of July festivities will be back this year. And yes, there will be fireworks on Monday, July 4th at Jetties Beach.

Below is a rundown of events happening on the Fourth, and there are a few changes from previous years, so here's what you need to know.

All events below are scheduled for Monday, July 4, 2022:

Main Street Area

• 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Sustainable Nantucket’s Farmer’s Market, Cambridge Street between Federal and South Water Streets.
• 10:00 a.m.: Roundtable discussion, spotlight on democracy with Peter Baker, Susan Glasser and David Gregory, Dreamland Theatre, 17 South Water Street.
• 10:00 a.m. - Noon: Food trucks will be located on Federal Street between Main and India Streets.
• 11:00 a.m.: Singing with students from the Nantucket Community Music Center, Main Street near the horse fountain.
• Noon: "Water competition" between the Nantucket Fire Department and the Boynton Lane Reserves. The traditional Main Street water fight has been trimmed down due to public safety concerns. Instead of the free-for-all water fight, it will be a "contained water contest" between NFD and the Boynton Lane Reserves. The town administration and fire department are advising the community that the public is invited to watch the water contest, but in the interest of safety, they are asking that individuals not participate. Both firetrucks will attempt to fill a 55 gallon drum with water first.

Children's Beach

• 10:00 a.m.: P.J. Moody sings the National Anthem and other patriotic music, Children’s Beach bandstand.
• 10:30 a.m.: Nanpuppets puppet show on the bandstand.
• 11:00 a.m.: P.J. Moody returns to sing on the bandstand.
• 11:30 a.m.: Bike parade around the park
• 10:00 a.m. - Noon: Zofia and Co. Photo Booth on the bandstand; Matt Fee Tea Toss; Nantucket Island Safe Harbor for Animals information table; cornhole tournament
• 5:00 p.m., Children’s Games on the beach, 3-legged, wheelbarrow and potato sack races ending with the Tug of War

Jetties Beach, Fireworks - 9 p.m.

The town's fireworks display is finally back. Fireworks by Atlas PyroVision will be shot from a barge just offshore from Jetties Beach and will last about 25 to 27 minutes. Patriotic music will be simulcast on 97.7 FM WACK radio.

Please note that the reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Orange Street has been cancelled this year and will return in 2023.
