Nantucket Summer Resident Bill Chisholm Buys The Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics franchise was sold on Thursday to an investment group led by Nantucket summer resident Bill Chisholm, the co-founder of the California-based private equity firm Symphony Technology Group.
If the $6.1 billion acquisition is approved by the NBA's Board of Governors, it would represent a record sale price for a North American sports team.
Chisholm, 56, is a Massachusetts native, having grown up in Georgetown on the North Shore, and is a lifelong Celtics fan.
“I watch every game or I’m at the games, and I love it,” Chisholm told The Boston Globe. “I just absolutely love it.”
While the Globe confirmed that Chisholm owns a home on Nantucket, the location of the residence is unknown, and he has kept a low profile on the island.
Chisholm attended Dartmouth College, where he earned a bachelor's degree. He later secured an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
The sale was completed by the Grousbeck family, which put the team on the market shortly after the Celtics won the 2024 NBA championship.
“Bill is a terrific person and a true Celtics fan, born and raised here in the Boston area,” Wyc Grousbeck wrote in a statement. “His love for the team and the city of Boston, along with his chemistry with the rest of the Celtics leadership, make him a natural choice to be the next Governor and controlling owner of the team.
“I know he appreciates the importance of the Celtics and burns with a passion to win on the court while being totally committed to the community. Quite simply, he wants to be a great owner. He has asked me to run the team as CEO and Governor for the first three years, and stay on as his partner, and I am glad to do so.”
Chisholm's acquisition means Nantucket is now the summer home of the owners of both the Celtics and the Boston Red Sox. John Henry, the owner of the Red Sox, bought a waterfront estate on Nantucket Harbor in April 2022 for $25 million.
