Nominations are open for Nantucket’s 2026 Senior Man and Senior Woman of the Year. The awards recognize extraordinary volunteer contributions by seniors to the Nantucket community.

Nominees must be at least 60 years old, enthusiastically involved as a volunteer in the community and a role model for seniors. Not eligible are employees of the senior center or Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands, as well as members of the Council on Aging.

The deadline for applications is Friday, April 24, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.

Any Nantucket resident of any age may submit nominations. Nomination forms are available at the Saltmarsh Senior Center, 81 Washington Street, and online at the Town website. Finalists will be chosen by the Council on Aging at its May 6 meeting.

The Senior of the Year award was founded in 1988 with a single honoree. Since 2003, there have been two recipients, one man and one woman. Last year, they were Kathy Grieder and Lee Saperstein.

The finalists will be honored by the senior community and by state and town officials at an event in June underwritten by the Nantucket Center for Elder Affairs/Friends of Nantucket Seniors. The Saltmarsh Senior Center’s main entrance includes a photo display of past honorees.
