One person was hospitalized Sunday afternoon after a Toyota SUV collided with a utility pole on Polpis Road and rolled over on its roof.

The single-car crash prompted a large public safety response, shut down Polpis Road in both directions, and knocked out power to the area.

There were three occupants in the vehicle, according to Nantucket Fire Department Chief Michael Cranson. The other two passengers appeared unscathed, and Cranson said they declined transport to the hospital. The condition of the person who was hospitalized is unknown at this time, Cranson added.

A witness told the Current the car was going an estimated 70 mph headed toward Quidnet before the accident occurred around 3:39 pm.

As of 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, power was still out in the area of Polpis Road where the accident occurred as National Grid crews worked to fix the pole and lines.
