Photo Gallery: Nantucket Dance Festival
Nantucket Current •
The Nantucket Dance Festival returned to the island last week under new leadership, and celebrated with a sold-out performance Saturday night at Nantucket High School.
After the Nantucket Atheneum made the decision to move on from the Dance Festival earlier this year, the event was adopted by a new non-profit, the Nantucket Dance Theater. The festival was its first significant fundraiser, with all proceeds going back to the Nantucket community to support dance programs, education, and performances for children on-island. Under the leadership of island dancers Michelle Birmingham and Alison Barone as co-chairs and Lauren Lovette and Lauren King, formerly of New York City Ballet as co-artistic directors, this year's festival included a wide variety of dance, expanding beyond ballet for the first time.
