Photo Gallery: Opening Day At The Hospital Thrift Shop
Nantucket Current •
It's the springtime tradition on India Street: a huge line of people stretching all the way to Centre Street awaiting the season opening of the Hospital Thrift Shop. That's how it looked Monday morning as the shop opened its doors for its 94th year in business. The Hospital Thrift sells used goods, furniture and clothes donated by the community at bargain prices to raise money for Nantucket Cottage Hospital. The juggernaut thrift store raised a record-breaking $600,000 in just six months last year, helping the hospital acquire a new MRI machine. "It was a very long line and a very busy morning and afternoon," said Thrift Shop manager Mary Casey. "We sold a lot of stuff and we were very happy with our opening day numbers."
