Winter Storm Hernando has come and gone with cleanup efforts in full force on Nantucket the past three days. There were 35 National Grid crews on the island as of Thursday, including 16 that came over on Wednesday ferries.
The number of households without power has dropped to just 15 as of Friday at noon, but issues remain with internet and cable across the island. The Current talked with Comcast spokesperson Kristen Roberts, who said most of their service interruptions were due to commercial power outages caused by the storms. They said their teams are working "as quickly and safely as possible to restore services" and that most customers should have their services restored once electricity is restored.
The Town's communication manager Florencia Rullo told the Current Friday morning that Comcast does not report residential information to the Town, but town officials are aware that many are without service.
"The Town Manager and the Emergency Management Director/Fire Chief will meet with Comcast this morning and request that Comcast issue a statement for the community, as many are still without service," Rullo said on Friday.
Dozens of National Grid, Xfinity/Comcast, and Department of Public Works workers continue to work around the clock to help Nantucket return to normal.
Island photographer Josh Gray shared some photos depicting the aftermath of the storm on the island with the Current.
