Police Investigating Unattended Death On Tuckernuck Island

The Nantucket Police Department is investigating an unattended death on the remote island of Tuckernuck, located east of Nantucket and accessible only by private boat.

The Nantucket Harbormaster's staff transported Nantucket Police Department and Nantucket Fire Department personnel to Tuckernuck late Monday night to investigate the unattended death, which occurred at a residence, according to Lt. Dan Mack.

"It is still under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious at this time," Mack said Tuesday morning. "Since it occurred within our jurisdiction we responded and investigated it as we would with any other case, there was just the added logistics of getting there."

The team of Nantucket public safety personnel set out from Madaket Marine for Tuckernuck just after 10:30 p.m. on Monday.

Mack declined to share any further information about the situation.
