To celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States Army, 27 active duty soldiers from around New England will be traveling to the island this Friday to participate in a so-called "Ruck March" in full combat gear through downtown Nantucket.

The soldiers will be accompanied by members of Coast Guard Station Brant Point, and will begin the Ruck March through the historic downtown starting on Straight Wharf at 10:30 a.m. and finishing at the Brant Point Lighthouse (see the full route below).

All Nantucket veterans/retired and "American patriots" are welcome to join.

A lunch consisting of hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, salad, water, and lemonade will be served by Nantucket volunteers to all the active duty soldiers present, and music will be provided by a local DJ.

The Nantucket American Legion Hall is looking for assistance to greet the troops and serve lunch/cooking at the Coast Guard galley from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Please contact Jimmy Durette for further information at 508-615-2109.
