Nantucket Public Schools Superintendent Beth Hallett Receives Contract Extension Through 2029

The Nantucket School Committee voted 3-0 Tuesday evening to approve an extension of the district's contract with Superintendent Beth Hallett through June 30, 2029.
Committee chair Pauline Proch, along with members Dr. Tim Lepore and Shantaw Bloise, endorsed the revised deal with Hallett.
Discussions about a possible extension took place in an executive session last Tuesday, August 13, and Hallett told the Current after Tuesday’s meeting that she is excited to be on the island long-term.
"I'm just very grateful to the School Committee," Hallett said. "They have been so supportive to me, and that is not always a normal situation or relationship between a superintendent and their school committee. We felt together that the opportunity for me to stay for an additional five years would give me and them longevity, consistency, and the ability to really make important shifts, really support the school system. If you remember, my first three years were COVID years. Not that I was ever robbed by them, but certainly things shifted entirely and the focus was very different."
Hallett had recently signed a contract extension in October of 2023, which was slated to run through June of 2026. She will make $218,000 in the 2024-2025 school year and $230,000 in the 2025-2026 school year.
For the remainder of the contract, her salary is listed as “To Be Determined.” Increases will be based on annual NPS budget allotment from the town, annual cost of living adjustments provided to the district and school administration, and successful progress on goals and performance objectives agreed upon between Hallett and the committee.
Hallett’s housing allowance will remain at $800 per month, which was part of her previous contract. The committee will also make a $7,500 annuity payment to an insurance company of Hallett’s choice in June of 2025 and a $10,000 annuity payment in June from 2026-2029.
“I feel so grateful that I have the opportunity to continue in a leadership role in the district, and I'm so thankful for a district leadership team that is so supportive of me as well,” Hallett said. “I hope they don't mind having me again for five more years.”
Hallett was hired as the Nantucket Public Schools deputy superintendent in 2019, working one year with former superintendent Mike Cozort before taking over the job in 2020.
Before coming to Nantucket, Hallett was the director of secondary education, English language learner education, and academic programs for the Quincy Public Schools.
