The Sconset Trust has acquired a 3.2 acre waterfront property on Gully Road along Sconset Beach for $4.75 million.

The undeveloped lot, located just beyond the Sconset Rotary along the south side of the road that leads to Codfish Park, was sold to the Sconset Trust by Joseph and Linda DiMartino. The intention is to preserve the land and have it remain undeveloped.

The acquisition includes about 100 yards of beachfront property, and as a result, the Sconset Trust announced that it had "extended the public beach at Codfish Park operated by the Town of Nantucket and the Nantucket Land Bank," while also precluding any future development and preserving the views from Ocean Avenue.

"The purchase of 2 Gully Road would not have been possible without the generous financial support of ’Sconset Trust members and the thoughtful recognition by the DiMartino family of the importance of preserving this important property," the Trust announced.

The DiMartinos had owned the property since 1990, when they purchased it for $2.45 million, according to property records.

The Sconset Trust's mission is "to protect the unique character of the ’Sconset community through conservation of open land and preservation of historically and/or architecturally significant structures in and around the village."

The Trust owns more than 131 acres of land in and around Sconset, including the Sankaty Head Lighthouse and Ruddick Commons, a 45-acre tract off Milestone Road that was acquired in 2014.
