Select Board vice chair Brooke Mohr announced at Tuesday’s Select Board governance retreat that she will not be seeking reelection when her term expires in 2028.

Mohr, who was elected to her second term in 2025, has a long history as a housing advocate on the island, and currently serves on the Affordable Housing Trust. She is also a board member of Nourish Nantucket, a local food security non-profit.

During her time on the Select Board, Mohr has pushed for year-round and affordable housing, and funding for those efforts has dramatically increased during her service, as has the number of income-restricted housing units on Nantucket.

Speaking with the Current, Mohr also highlighted a review of the town’s human services operations, which she said was intended to help community members who are struggling.

Mohr served a stint as the chair of the Select Board in 2024. Her time as chair overlapped with the Vineyard Wind turbine blade collapse. Mohr, who became the board’s primary spokesperson on offshore wind issues, bore much of the criticism leveled at the town in the wake of the collapse.

Mohr told the Current on Tuesday that, before her term ends, she hopes to help encourage more members of the community to engage with local government and serve on government boards. She said one reason for announcing her decision not to run again years before the election was to give interested members of the community more time to decide to run for her seat.
