South Slip At Steamboat Wharf Closed For Transfer Bridge Replacement

The south slip at Steamboat Wharf is closed this week as workers from AGM Marine replace the transfer bridge used to connect the Steamship Authority's vessels to the wharf.
The project meant passengers were boarding and disembarking from the Steamship Authority's fast ferry, the M/V Iyanough, at the north slip, which is typically used by the traditional car ferries and freight boats.
Once construction on the south slip has completed, workers will move on to replace the north slip's transfer bridge.
The two transfer bridges, both more than 40 years old, allow the safe transfer of trucks, vehicles, passengers, and freight from the Steamship Authority's various vessels onto Steamboat Wharf. Eighty percent of $1.62 million in project funding will come from federal highway funds, with the remaining 20 percent paid by the SSA.
A similar project will begin this fall at the Steamship's wharf in Vineyard Haven on Martha's Vineyard.
