Southern Airways Looks To Fill Void Left By Cape Air On Nantucket Flights

Just weeks after we reported on Cape Air drastically reducing its flights between Nantucket and Hyannis, another airline appears to be stepping in to fill the void.
Southern Airways announced this week that it will have 26 weekly flights on the Nantucket/Hyannis route starting June 16.
The service will begin with four round-trip flights during the weekdays, and three daily flights on Saturdays and Sundays. The aircraft will be Southern's Cessna Grand Caravan, which can carry up to 12 passengers, and each flight will have two pilots. One-way fares will start at $99.
“While being one of the largest commuter airlines in the country, we are also nimble enough to pivot quickly and step-in when demand is not being met,” said Mark Cestari, Southern’s chief commercial officer. “Countless businesses and individuals have reached out to us in the last week asking for the increased service. We are fortunate that we have the ability to immediately serve the community.”
Southern Airways is already flying to Nantucket from several other locations, including Boston, Norwood, New Bedford, and Providence, RI. The expansion of the Hyannis/Nantucket service was preceded by Southern making a big push to hire new customer service agents and other employees on the island over the past five months.
“This is perfect timing for Southern Airways flights to begin again at Cape Cod Gateway Airport,” said Katie Servis, airport manager. “This will provide fast and easy air transportation between Nantucket and Hyannis for visitors, residents, and business travelers—just in time for the busy summer season.”

Southern was founded in Memphis in 2013 and now serves 44 cities from Nantucket to Honolulu.
