A Jeep Wrangler that had been parked on the street along Cliff Road Monday evening was stolen and discovered wrecked on Milk Street on Tuesday.
Sconset resident Sara Warwick told the Current one of her daughters had parked the Jeep Monday night in the vicinity of 15 Cliff Road and left the keys inside. When she returned to the area around 1 a.m., it was gone.
She reported it as stolen to Nantucket Police, and the family was notified Tuesday morning that the vehicle had been found at 59 Milk Street, near the Loines Observatory. It was heavily damaged, with the front, passenger-side wheel completely shredded off.
“Someone had taken the Jeep and pretty destroyed the front right half of it,” Warwick said. “Enough is enough. This has been happening all summer. It’s not a good feeling. We don’t want this island to dissipate into this wild west feeling.”
