The Tall Ship Lynx Returns To Nantucket
Jason Graziadei •
The tall ship Lynx arrived in Nantucket Harbor Saturday afternoon at the end of a journey up the East Coast from Maryland and was captured rounding Brant Point by Nantucket Current contributor Peter Sutters.
The Lynx, a replica of a schooner from the War of 1812, is operated as an educational organization by the Lynx Educational Foundation.
During its annual stay in Nantucket Harbor from May through September, the Lynx partners with the Egan Maritime Institute to provide island students and residents with the opportunity to sail aboard the tall ship and learn about the history of the maritime challenges during the War of 1812.
The Lynx was the largest ship building project ever undertaken by Rockport Marine in Rockport, Maine. It was completed in July, 2001.
