Three days of relentless rain and powerful winds left a mess along the waterfront over the weekend, with numerous boats sunk, partially submerged, or beached along Nantucket and Madaket harbors.

Nantucket Harbormaster Sheila Lucey said she counted at least a dozen boats blown up onto the beaches, three that were partially submerged, and one that sank in Nantucket Harbor.

"Salvage people are on standby ready to launch as soon as weather permits," Lucey said on Saturday. "This storm was not forecasted to be as extreme as it was. As always we are ready to start the clean up once weather permits."
