"Ms. Ferrantella joins the Town with a deep understanding of the affordable housing initiatives on Nantucket and the diversity of solutions that have been in process under the current director," the town stated in its announcement of the hiring.

In addition to her term on the Select Board, Ferrantella has also served on the town's Affordable Housing Trust and the Neighborhood First Advisory Committee. The UMass Boston graduate previously worked as the executive director of the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce, and the director of development for the Nantucket chapter of Habitat For Humanity.

In her new role, Ferrantella will oversee all the administrative functions and communication initiatives of the town's Housing Office, represent the Town to local and State agencies as well as the state house, and serve as the Fair Housing Director for the Town.

Town manager Libby Gibson introduced Ferrantella to the Select Board Wednesday night and said "She has her work cut out for her," acknowledging the island's housing crisis and the number of housing projects and initiatives currently underway.

Ferrantella starts her new job on December 18th.
