Truck Crashes Through Nantucket Memorial Airport Fence

A pickup truck crashed through the fence at Nantucket Memorial Airport and rolled over Thursday night, prompting a large public safety response along Monohansett Road and on the south ramp of the airport.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported by ambulance to Nantucket Cottage Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, a public safety source at the scene told the Current.

The accident occurred around 9:40 p.m. during a rainstorm. It appeared the truck was traveling north toward the airport on Monhansett Road when it veered off the side and crashed through the fence, ending up on its side.

The Nantucket Police Department, Nantucket Fire Department, Nantucket Memorial Airport personnel, and heavy rescue apparatus all responded to the scene of the crash. A flatbed truck eventually towed the vehicle off the ramp.

Nantucket Memorial Airport manager Noah Karberg said operations were not impacted, and the airport was operating normally throughout the incident.
